Overview

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is a global initiative that provides comprehensive support to talented, service-oriented young people from underrepresented backgrounds, particularly in Africa, to pursue higher education and develop leadership skills.

Coverage

The scholarship is fully funded. It covers tuition fees, accommodation, books and academic materials, mentoring, counseling, leadership development, and a return air ticket to the scholar's home country if necessary.

Eligibility

Open to young people from underrepresented backgrounds, including Ethiopian students. The program focuses on secondary, undergraduate, and master's levels. PhD candidates are currently not eligible.

Requirements

Requirements vary by partner institution. Some North American universities may require TOEFL or SAT scores, while many Africa-based partner universities do not. Applicants must demonstrate academic potential and a commitment to social change.

How to apply

There is no central application. You must apply directly to the partner universities or NGOs that host the program. Research the specific partner institution's website to find their unique application guidelines, deadlines, and admission requirements.

Notes

Admission to a partner university does not guarantee selection for the scholarship. The program is highly competitive. If an application fee is required by a partner university, it may be reimbursed if you are selected for the scholarship.
