Overview

The DAAD/EPOS scholarship supports young professionals from developing countries to pursue the MSc in Environmental Governance (MEG) at the University of Freiburg, Germany. This is a highly competitive, development-related postgraduate program.

Coverage

Scholarship holders receive monthly stipends (992 euros for graduates), health/accident/liability insurance, travel allowances, and potential subsidies for rent and accompanying family members.

Eligibility

Open to young professionals from DAC-listed developing countries (including Ethiopia). Applicants must hold an academic degree (not older than 6 years) and have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience post-Bachelor. Academic employment (teaching/research) is generally not considered relevant experience.

Requirements

Applicants must meet both the DAAD EPOS criteria and the MEG program admission requirements. Candidates must have an above-average academic degree (upper third) and must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months prior to application.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted by October 15, 2026, for the 2027 intake. Applicants must complete the DAAD application form and the specific MEG application form. All documents must be merged into a single PDF and emailed to the program office. Reference letters must be sent directly by referees to the program email address.

This is a one-year-ahead application process. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Ensure all information across the DAAD form, CV, and motivation letter is consistent.
