Overview

The Cullman Center Fellowship is an international program for scholars, writers, journalists, translators, and artists whose work requires access to the research collections at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building in New York. The program selects 15 fellows annually for a nine-month residency from September to May.

Coverage

Fellows receive a stipend of $90,000, a private office with a computer, and full access to the New York Public Library’s physical and electronic research collections.

Eligibility

The fellowship is open to international applicants, including those from Ethiopia, provided they are fluent in English. Eligible candidates include academics, independent scholars, novelists, playwrights, poets, and visual artists working on a book project. Applicants must demonstrate that their project requires extensive use of the library's collections.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a project proposal, writing sample, CV, and bibliography. Candidates must be able to commit to working at the Cullman Center five days a week during the fellowship term. Students seeking funding for research that leads directly to an academic degree are not eligible.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through the official online application portal. Review all guidelines on the official website before preparing your proposal and supporting documents.

Notes

Fellows are expected to participate in weekly gatherings, intellectual exchanges, and public programs organized by the library.
