Overview

The Kennan Institute Digital Fellowship 2026-2027 is a six-month, fully funded virtual opportunity designed for outstanding journalists, academic researchers, scholars, and community experts. The program aims to revive intellectual exchange between the former Soviet Union and the West, with a global reach due to its digital format. Ten participants will be selected to run from October 2026 to March 2027, receiving support to communicate their ideas to the public and policy community.

Coverage

Fellows will receive a stipend of $2000 per month. They will also benefit from guidance and mentorship from Kennan community experts, attend six virtual webinars, and join the Kennan alumni network upon completion. The program provides six months of financial support and integration into a professional network.

Eligibility

This fellowship is open to individuals engaged in the study of Russia and/or broader Eurasia. Applicants should have several years of experience working on, studying, or otherwise examining Russia and/or broader Eurasia. A strong command of the English language is required. As a remote fellowship, participants can join from anywhere in the world, making it accessible to Ethiopian students.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a CV or Resume and a Research Proposal.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through the online application form available on the official call page. You will need to fill out your personal and contact information, upload the required documents, and then submit your form.

Notes

The fellowship is entirely virtual, allowing for global participation. Fellows will meet virtually once a month and are required to develop and publish a writing piece for the general public and policy community, with guidance from Kennan Institute staff. The program is supported by the Lounsbery Foundation and the U.S. Russia Foundation.
