Overview

The Junior Summer Institute (JSI), also known as the PPIA Fellowship, is a fully funded, seven-week summer program designed for college juniors. It aims to prepare students for graduate studies and careers in public policy and international affairs. The program is hosted at prestigious US universities such as Harvard University, Princeton University, and the University of Michigan. Its main goal is to develop diverse future leaders who can strengthen government and nonprofit institutions globally.

Coverage

This is a fully funded fellowship. Benefits include a summer stipend, funded coursework (graduate-level classes in policy, economics, statistics, leadership), free course materials, and on-campus housing. Fellows also receive career coaching, access to a vast alumni network of over 5000 professionals, exclusive opportunities, and mentorship.

Eligibility

This program welcomes students from all backgrounds who are passionate about public service, inclusive leadership, and driving positive policy change. Applicants must currently be college juniors pursuing their first bachelor’s degree at a US-based college or university. They should be scheduled to graduate in December 2027 or between May and August 2028. While US citizens, permanent residents, and DACA recipients are eligible for all JSI programs, international students, including those from Ethiopia, may apply to the Princeton JSI program if they are currently enrolled at a US institution.

Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must be current college juniors enrolled in their first bachelor's degree program at a US-based college or university, with a graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028. A passion for public service, inclusive leadership, and positive policy change is also expected. Applicants should have their academic history, financial information, résumé, and any required supporting documents ready.

The application process is entirely online. Applicants should visit the official PPIA application portal, carefully fill out the application form, and submit all required documents. Candidates have the option to apply for more than one JSI site. It is crucial to submit the application before the stated deadline.

Notes

This is a seven-week summer fellowship program. After completing the JSI, fellows become part of the extensive PPIA alumni network and gain access to the Public Service Expo for networking and professional development.
