Overview

The British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship is a three-year award for early-career researchers in the humanities and social sciences to pursue independent research and gain teaching experience in a UK-based university or research institution.

Coverage

The fellowship is funded by the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) under the Full Economic Costing (FEC) regime. The Academy funds 80% of salary costs, directly allocated costs, and indirect costs.

Eligibility

Applicants must be at an early stage of their career. You are eligible if you are a British citizen, an EEA national, or hold a doctorate from a UK university. Other nationalities may apply if they can demonstrate a 'strong prior association' with the UK academic community.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed their Viva Voce examination between April 1, 2024, and April 1, 2027. You must not have held a permanent academic post in an institution of higher education at any time in your career. You must be based at an eligible UK university or research organization for the duration of the fellowship.

Notes

The fellowship is non-renewable and commences in Autumn 2027. The primary focus is on the completion of significant, publishable research.
